Adoption and the Journey of self discovery.

What does finding ones roots mean to an adoptee ? For many adopted people, the desire to find out who they are often stems from a deep sense of identity and belonging. Here are several reasons why you might feel compelled to search for their origins: Identity and Self-Understanding : Knowing one's biological roots can help in forming a more complete sense of self. Many adoptees may feel that understanding where they come from can offer clarity about their personal identity, cultural heritage, or familial traits. Medical History : A key motivation for many is to access information about their medical background. Knowing family medical history can help identify risks for certain genetic conditions or provide explanations for health issues they may experience. Connection and Belonging : Some adoptees seek out biological family members to establish a sense of connection or closure. They may want to understand the circumstances of their adoption, meet biological relatives, or connect w...

Discovering my grandmother's name  Joseph Iris and Ida  After many months and months of piecing together bits and working out a lady only known as "Aunty Polly" as my father's Joseph Wright had known her. From the photos Raine had put on Ancestry.  Also after slowly unraveling the intricate threads of my family history finding out my father had also been Adopted way back in 1928 in Victoria by Les & Ann Wright ( Raine is their grand daughter) and this was a year before the Adoption Act had come in Victoria, so records and  information was hit and miss, even the way adoptions were carried out in some cases was more of a anything goes. So Aunty Polly is Ida Mary Pulz, Ida was born in 1905 and I found out she lived to the ripe old age of 97 passing in 2001.  She had also got married later in life and had a daughter. This is another one of the many other things I'm working on now. But more on that later. Also Ida and her Sister in law were the...

Finding Joseph Wright, His father, My Grandfather

Image
Finding Joseph Wright, His father, My Grandfather   After finding Joseph Wright and the location where he is buried and visiting Fawkner Memorial Park near Melbourne in June 2023. The search continued to find out who was Josephs Mother and Father after lots of research the Tuck side of the family. I knew through DNA that Charles Tuck 1850-1942 and his Wife Ellen Mary Tuck nee Hill 1860-1936, that it was highly possible they were my Great Grandparents.     My attention turned to finding the link between Joseph and the Tucks. As Joseph was adopted at a time when records of adoption didn’t need to or weren’t kept this had some challenges within itself.   So, the research continued to work through the Tuck family and who would be the link to Joseph. Working through the family and possibilities it come down to 2 of Charles and Ellens sons, Leslie Joseph Tuck, and Charles Fredrick Tuck. Now Leslie Joseph Tuck 1901-1981 had 2 children Elizabeth (Betty) Tuck a...

The thing about it was the story goes the Les and Anne Wright had a biological daughter Iris and had adopted a girl Joan unfortunately she passed away at 12 months old.  They had gone to an orphanage to adopt another baby girl. There was a lady there in the waiting room with a baby and this lady begged them to take her baby. That baby was Joseph.  The Wrights at the time lived in Carlton Victoria and had property at Kinglake Victoria which they visited many times and on different occasions there are photos of "Aunt Polly" with Joseph there and other places on special occasions like birthdays and times when Joseph was away at College at Kilmore Victoria.   Aunt Polly with Joseph Anne Wright holding a baby and Iris at Kinglake  Aunt Polly with Iris and Joseph on bike  As Joseph got older he was sent to Assumption College at Kilmore Victoria which is an private boarding school.
